I don’t usually post sketches but these 50 big fellows have been burning my sketchbook for some time now and I’ve realized they just want to see the light of day.

No suelo colgar este tipo de bocetos pero estos 50 amiguetes llevan ya algún tiempo incordiando en mi cuaderno queriendo ver la luz y han decidido que ya es la hora de hacerlo.

I’ve been working for some time on a wonderful project with my friend Noah Bates from Colorado, United States. It is a graphic novel called The Gray Wolf and in it I am putting some of my best work into it.

I am a passionate lover of wolves. From my early childhood I have felt a deep connection to the strong eyes they have. They just might be the most mysterious and mesmerizing creatures in the world, and unjustly treated too. Historically, here in Spain, we have seen them as The Big Bad Wolf, of children stories. That night demon which steals sheep and kids to eat them, always ready to do evil. Well, time and science proved that to be wrong. Maybe with this book we can allow you see them and feel about them as we do.

The book will tell the story of the gray wolf from its evolution, ecological role, eradication from western states to its reintroduction in the West. The story of the Gray Wolf is still unfolding today with the species delisting from the Endangered Species Act in 2011 and as debate continues over wolf management with population increase and expansion of their range into new states. The book will be illustrated in the style of a graphic novel and will appeal across generations. The book will tell the story like it is, based on true events through quality illustration.

As this is a private project we are searching for contributors, so we have started a Kickstarter project where everybody who wants to be part of it can do so. There are many cool rewards such as dedicated prints or copies of the book once it is published. (link)

He estado trabajando ya desde hace algún tiempo en un projecto personal muy interesante con mi amigo Noah Bates de Colorado, Estados Unidos. Es una novela gráfica llamada The Gray Wolf, El lobo Gris, y estoy poniendo en ello algunos de mis mejores trabajos.
Soy un apasionado de los lobos desde que era muy pequeño, siempre me he sentido atraido por su extraña mirada. Probablemente sean las criaturas más misteriosas y fascinantes del mundo, que además han sido injustamente tratadas a lo largo de la historia. En España siempre se ha visto al lobo como a ese personaje de los cuentos de niños que roba ovejas y niños para devorarlos. Bueno, la ciencia y el tiempo demostraron que esto no era cierto. Puede que gracias a este libro consigamos que los veáis de la misma manera que nosotros.

El libro está centrado en Estados Unidos, contará la historia del lobo gris desde su evolución, nicho ecológico y su erradicación de los estados septentrionales hasta su reintroducción en el Oeste. La historia del lobo gris todavía se desarrolla ante nosotros con la especie abandonando el Acta de Especies Amenazadas este año y el debate continúa sobre la gestión de la creciente población de lobos y la expansión de su territorio hacia nuevos estados. El libro contará la historia tal y como es, basada en acontecimientos reales a través de grandes ilustraciones.

Como esto es un proyecto privado buscamos financiación así que hemos iniciado un proyecto en Kickstarter  donde todo el mundo que quiera formar parte pueda hacerlo. Habrá sorpresas y premios en forma de impresiones dedicadas o copias del libro firmadas en cuanto se publique.

This awesome creature is probably one of the strangest bizarre pets you can find among the most exclusive pet shops of the world. Big enough to chew your arm off, always hungry of fresh meat, awefully smelling, and needy for water and open spaces to pee, nevertheless the proud owners always will tell you these animals are the most lovable and loyal pets you can find. Well… people keep surprising me.

Esta extraordinaria  criatura se ha convertido probablemente en una de las más extrañas mascotas que puedas encontrar por las tiendas de animales más exclusivas del mundo. Suficientemente grandes como para arrancarte un brazo de un mordisco, siempre hambrientos de carne fresca, con un olor horrible, y siempre en demanda de agua y espacios abiertos donde mear, sin embargo los orgullosos propietarios te dirán sin reservas que estos animales son las mascotas mas achuchables y leales que puedas encontrar. Desde luego la gente nunca dejará de sorprenderme.

Somehow, I keep coming again and again to the bunny subject. I just cannot resist the temptation and must paint another one . Buceando entre mis archivos acabo de encontrar esta imagen esperando para ver la luz. Recuerdo haber estado intentando trabajar en algo, empezar a hacer cualquier otra cosa, y claro, sólo podía salir otro dragón.

Hace bastante tiempo que no posteo nada. Lo cierto es que he estado ocupadísimo con material que de momento no puedo enseñar. He estado esperando como loco un momentito de relax para sentarme a dibujar una de mis extrañas criaturas. Espero que vayan apareciendo más dentro de poco.

One of the really wonderful things in life is having a pet. In my case, as a bloodthirsty battle hardened tough goblin, my good old Spike is the perfect companion. He doesn’t mind that you have gone out to war for an hour or a whole week. He is immensely happy as soon as he sees you opening the door coming back from work. Maybe the battle had turned out badly, or perhaps the bloody Orks had changed their loyalties again, depriving you of your well deserved loot, or you have been unable to satisfy your thirst for blood. All that doesn’t matter for him. All he really wants is to have you by his side, a bowl full of meat and his skull to play. For me, happiness is just to relax after a good hard day’s work, resting your feet on his back while you read the newspaper.

Una de las cosas maravillosas que tiene la vida es tener una mascota. En mi caso, un aguerrido goblin, endurecido en las batallas y sediento de sangre, el buen viejo Spike se ha convertido en un compañero perfecto. A él no le importa nada que te hayas ido a hacer la guerra por una hora o durante una semana. Es inmensamente feliz sólo de verte abrir la puerta a la vuelta del trabajo. Puede que la batalla haya ido mal, o puede que los malditos orcos hayan cambiado de bando de nuevo, dejándote sin tu merecido botín, o que no hayas podido saciar tu sed de sangre. Todo eso no significa nada para él. Todo lo que quiere es que estés a su lado, un plato de carne fresca, y su craneo para jugar. Para mí, la felicidad consiste en relajarse después de un día duro apoyando los pies en su espalda mientras lees el periódico.
